Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I am a beginner. Where do I start?
A: Those who are new to shooting, or who haven't shot a gun for a long time are encouraged to start with the USCCA's Basic Handgun class. You will benefit from three hours of classroom lecture and some hands-on activities, such as learning to properly handle and get a good grip on your gun. After this, you will will receive a one-hour, on-the-range session. Those who have never shot a handgun before can be initiated with shooting a 22 caliber pistol, which has low recoil and noise). You can then progress up to a 9mm handgun.
Q: Is it a requirement to bring a gun to the class or event?
A: No, when appropriate, we can provide the appropriate firearms to those who do not have one to bring to the relevant class. However, we encourage you to bring your own and to be familiar with it.
Q: Is it required to bring ammunition to the class or event?
A: Yes, please bring ammunition to the appropriate class. If you don’t have any, the Range can sell ammo for your gun (provided it is among the most common calibers).
Q: Can I receive a concealed handgun permit (CHP) if I complete a class?
A: After taking a class, you will receive a certificate of completion for successful demonstrating the ability to safely handle and shoot a handgun. This certificate is part of what is required when submitting your CHP application. Please remember to make copies of the certificate in order to send them along with your application. Hold on to the original, as you won't receive it back if you send it in and it does not expire.
